Choosing to have an assessment is a personal decision, and we understand that you may have questions about which type of assessment is right for you or someone you support. We offer a range of assessment services, depending on your age, circumstances and whether the assessment is being self-funded or funded by a third party.

We want you to have the information you need to make the choice that feels right for you. You can find details of the assessment services we offer below, including what each involves, who it is suitable for and the costs.

Assessment Services we offer:

• In-person Dyslexia Assessment Service (Self funded):
  We can arrange an in-person dyslexia assessment for ages 8+. The cost of an assessment with a specialist teacher is £575 + VAT = £690 and an assessment with a psychologist is £735 + VAT = £882 . The locations that we can offer are listed in the booking packs when you start an application, these are kept up to date. Assessors are often booking months in advance, but the earliest available date will always be offered.Ìý
  
  If we do not have an assessor in your area we can offer a remote assessment by remote video platform using our Remote Dyslexia Assessment Service for those 12 years and over. Remote assessors can usually offer a date within 1 month, but the earliest available date will always be offered.

• In-person Dyscalculia Assessment Service (Self funded):
  We can arrange an in-person dyscalculia assessment for ages 8+ at the locations listed when you start your application.ÌýThe cost of an assessment is £575 + VAT = £690 and is carried out with a specialist teacher. Dyscalculia assessments cannot be carried out remotely. Assessors are often booked months in advance, but the earliest available date will always be offered.
  *We are unable to offer a combined Dyslexia and Dyscalculia assessment.*

• Remote Dyslexia Assessment Service (Self funded):
  For ages 12 and over who can comfortably participate in a remote session, the BDA can offer this via a video platform such as Zoom. The cost of an assessment with a specialist teacher is £575 + VAT = £690 and an assessment with a psychologist is £735 + VAT = £882. Remote assessors can usually offer a date within 1 month, but the earliest available date will always be offered.

  The BDA can arrange assessments that are to be funded by schools, local authorities, universities, organisations and employers. The cost of an assessment via this route is £575 + VAT = £690 with a specialist teacher and an assessment with a psychologist is £735 + VAT = £882. Assessors are often booking months in advance, but the earliest available date will always be offered.

• Corporate Dyscalculia Assessment Service (funded by third party):
  The BDA can arrange dyscalculia assessments that are to be funded by schools, local authorities, universities, organisations and employers. The cost of an assessment via this route is £575 + VAT = £690 Ìý
  Available for all ages 8 years +, at the locations listed when you start your application. Dyscalculia assessments cannot be carried out remotely. Assessors are often booking months in advance, but the earliest available date will always be offered.

Funding.

Unfortunately, there is not usually any direct funding for diagnostic assessments in schools, colleges or other settings, generally, assessments have to be paid for by the person, parent, or employer. As dyslexia and dyscalculia are not medical conditions, a diagnostic assessment is not covered by the NHS.
